Christmas Town, Jars Of Clay and a Wonderful Christmas Time

This past weekend we got the opportunity to meet the guys from Jars Of Clay, the popular Christian rock band from Tennessee, who were performing at the opening of Busch Garden’s Christmas Town.

It’s a funny story really…

My sister-In-Law Denise was able to get tickets to the opening of Christmas Town and we were really excited to go!

We’d heard Jars of Clay were performing at 10 o’clock and we’d planned on heading over to see them, the only problem was we were standing in line waiting for Santa!

We were standing in line a really, really long time and while the elves were extremely cute and really good at keep Meghan entertained…

the repetitive “just hear those sleigh bells ring-a-ling ting ting ting-a-ling too…” accompanied with bird whistling was driving me completely bonkers!

To make matters worse, hubby and Meg realised the music was wearing on me and started imitating the whistling so as  to drive me completely insane, but I digress…

It was the grand opening of Christmas Town so we fully expected it to take a little while to see the jolly old fella and Meg kept peaking in the windows to see if she could see him.

Finally we were led into Santa’s house where we were met with more elves who led us into the kitchen to meet Mrs. Claus.

After gobbling a few chocolate chip cookies and learning a song with Mrs. Claus we were ushered through some red curtains by another elf into a hall of mirrors.

The elf told us her name was Jingles and this was the getting cleaned up for Santa area!

Jingles asked Meg which mirror was her favorite and then did a secret knock…

the knock was returned from the other side of the mirror and Meg’s face completely lit up when the elf on the other side revealed the mirror was actually a secret door to Santa.

With a big smile on her face Meg quickly told Santa she wanted Olivia’s House (Friends Lego) for Christmas and promised to be good.

While it took a long time to get in to see Santa it was well worth the wait!

Meg was beaming from ear to ear while we stood outside waiting for her cousins to come through.

Hoping to catch the end of Jars of Clay’s performance we high tailed it to the other side of Christmas Town, but sadly we were too late.

Determined to continue our fun and because Meg had never seen snow before we headed over to Snow World where Meg threw her first few snow balls!

I was so proud of Meg for being brave enough to go down the snow slide by herself although I would’ve had a giggle had hubby gone up and done it with her.

While I was taking pictures of Meg going down the ice slide I happened to notice the guys from Jars of Clay just a few feet away chatting and taking pictures with fans.

So I motioned to Hubby and Meg and we headed over to see if they minded taking one with us.

Stephen Mason greeted us with a smile and asked if we’d happened to see their set?

Unable to lie I told him we’d missed it on account of waiting for Santa.

He was really sweet and told Meg not to worry Santa was more important anyway!

Stephen was just a really nice guy and we found out, while he was chatting soccer with hubby, he’s an Arsenal fan which makes us like him all the more!

By this time the rest of the band had gathered around for our picture!

They were sincerely a great group of guys and I’m glad we got a chance to meet them!

So today for Music Monday I’m featuring a few of my favorite songs by them.

First up their christmas remake of Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmas Time!

Friday Food Fight… Caprese Salad!

~Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out ~

Robert Collier

I’ve stopped procrastinating and I’m finally getting on the treadmill regularly to try to lose the weight I’ve gained over the last ten few years!

Today is day five of my treadmill endeavour and thanks to the encouragement of family and friends it’s going good.  I have a few aches and pains here and there  but that’s to be expected!

Along with exercising, I’ve been trying to keep my diet healthy too and a favorite salad of mine recently has been the Caprese Salad.

It’s really easy to make and super tasty!

Caprese Salad

3 slices of fresh mozzarella

3 slices of your favorite tomato

(I like heirloom tomatoes or vine ripe)

a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of pepper

a drizzle of olive oil

a splash of balsamic vinegar

fresh basil

What foods do you try to avoid while trying to lose a few extra pounds?

What  food/beverages do you rely on while watching your figure?

To join our Friday Food Fight, post a picture of your favorite food, meal, snack
or drink.  Of course, we’d love to see you enjoying your tasty treat, but you
don’t have to be in the picture.  Then on Friday, post your drool inducing photo

Hello Meme my old friend!

I haven’t done a meme in a while so when @lizjarvis from The Mum Blog was looking for some people to tag I was quick to raise my hand and jump on the meme wagon.  So here goes…

Which living person do you most admire, and why?

My mum! At times we have our differences, but she’s my rock! I don’t know what I’d do without her!

I also admire my daughter because of everything she’s endured in her short life; she is a pillar of strength and works so hard at being a kid.

If you meant a historical person… I really admire Alice Paul for what she endured so women would have the right to vote.

When were you happiest?

When I was a kid, when I got married and when I had my daughter!

What was your most embarrassing moment?

You’ll have to click HERE and read!

Aside from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?

My dining room table?

What is your most treasured possession?

My family!

Where would you like to live?

In a perfect world…

 New Zealand or Amsterdam

What’s your favourite smell?

Hmm… so many!  I love Armani Emporio perfume, Sterling Roses or Jasmine, chocolate, steak on the grill and of course BACON! Lol

Who would play you in the film of your life?

I dunno? Kate Blanchett…  Julia Styles, or maybe Mira Sorvino?

What is your favourite book?

These are just a few that come to mind!  I loved most of the Dan Brown books, Judy Blum’s Summer Sisters, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Kurt Vonnegut’s Man without a country! Right now I’m reading Water for Elephants and it’s not too shabby!

What is your most unappealing habit?

I bite my nails and I’m easily distracted.

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?

I once wore a red, crushed velvet, pimp suit with zebra trim for Halloween, but if I had the figure, I’d love to wear a kick ass latex suit like the one Kate Beckinsale wore in Underworld! Sexy!  Sadly, right now if I tried one on I’d look like a giant Oompa Loompa!

What is your earliest memory?

Me and my best mate Sam pretending we were Ewoks from Star Wars and writing stories about the mice in her shed.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Chocolate! Hence the reason I can’t wear the fancy dress costume! Lol

What do you owe your parents?

My dad – nothing! My mum – everything!

To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why?

To my dad! Sorry you didn’t want to be part of my life because you’ve really missed out on some amazing stuff!

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My daughter.

What does love feel like?

Giddy, unbreakable, passionate, amazing, like all your favorite things wrapped up in one sweet package!

What was the best kiss of your life?

It would be unladylike of me to kiss and tell.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

FFS, No Worries, seriously, Umm!

What is the worst job you’ve done?

Selling magazines over the phone.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?

I would have stayed with my mum and not gone to Italy with my father. Not that I ever had a choice!

What is the closest you’ve come to death?

I’ve never really come close to death.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My daughter.

When did you last cry, and why?

Two days ago, because I had a dream I was playing with my youngest nephew and I realized I’m not going to get to do that any time soon.

How do you relax?

Music, scrapbook, Twitter, Facebook

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?

Not having anxiety.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

To cherish the things you love in life because in a moment they can be taken from you.

And now I’m tagging the following bloggers –
